About Gastric Band Surgery
The gastric band is the safest definitive weight loss surgery procedure. At Optimise we perform this surgery using minimal invasive surgery and the latest lap band technology.
Patients can expect to lose 40-50% of their excess weight over 12 to 18 months. It works by altering the passage of food as it passes into stomach. By slowing this transition down, messages are sent along nerves to the brain, stimulating fullness. The band is adjusted by an easy access port placed under the skin, that is not visible.
The Gastric Band Procedure
Through 5 small keyhole incisions, we place the LapBAND system around the very top of the stomach. This is then connected to an access port placed outside the abdominal wall and deep to the skin so that it is not visible. Band adjustments are easily performed in order to increase and decrease the diameter of the band to effect fullness.

During Your Stay
High level care and support, before, during and after your surgery. We aim to optimise your weight loss journey by performing surgery within a tailored specialist weight loss surgery plan. All of our team are NHS Weight loss specialists, bringing their safe expertise to the private sector.
On the day of surgery, you will be admitted to your own private room. When it is your turn, our friendly team will take you into the operating theatre. Our specialist Bariatric Anaesthetist will give you a safe general anaesthetic, using the latest enhanced recovery protocols in order to speed up your recovery. Surgery is performed with 5 small “keyhole” incisions (5-12mm in size) and takes approximately one and a half hours.
Most patients spend 1 night in hospital, although it can be performed as a day case procedure. Our team of Consultant weight loss surgeons will review you at least twice a day to make sure you are following the expected recovery pathway.
