Mini Gastric Bypass
Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery
About Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery
The mini gastric bypass (or single anastomosis gastric bypass) is the newest weight loss surgery procedure. It is gaining popularity due to excellent results and shorter operating times than the conventional gastric bypass. At Optimise we perform this surgery using standard keyhole surgery or the latest Robotic technique with the DaVinci surgical robotic platform.
Patients can expect to lose 70-80% of their excess weight over 24 months. It works by altering the hunger hormones in the intestinal tract, also having the effect of putting type 2 diabetes into remission. For this reason, it is exceptionally good for those patients who have type 2 diabetes. It is not suitable for those who suffer from acid reflux and those that have recently given up smoking.
The Mini Gastric Bypass Procedure
Through 5 small keyhole incisions, we create a small stomach pouch slightly bigger than the size of your thumb using the latest surgical stapling device. The small bowel is attached to this small pouch in order to bypass part of the stomach and the 150cm of the intestinal tract.

During Your Stay
High level care and support, before, during and after your surgery. We aim to optimise your weight loss journey by performing surgery within a tailored specialist weight loss surgery plan. All of our team are NHS Weight loss specialists, bringing their safe expertise to the private sector.
On the day of surgery, you will be admitted to your own private room. When it is your turn, our friendly team will take you into the operating theatre. Our specialist Bariatric Anaesthetist will give you a safe general anaesthetic, using the latest enhanced recovery protocols in order to speed up your recovery. Surgery is performed with 5 small “keyhole” incisions (5-12mm in size) and takes approximately one and a half to two hours.
Most patients spend 2 nights in hospital (sometimes less) to adjust to the surgery. Our team of Consultant weight loss surgeons will review you at least twice a day to make sure you are following the expected recovery pathway. Once you have met our safety criteria for discharge, we will offer you the option of going home to continue your journey.
